Thwack Privacy Policy

Effective November 4, 2026

Thwack is a drum machine and drum synthesizer that runs entirely on your device. It does not collect, store or share any personal data.

What stays on your device

  • Your kits, patterns, sequences, MIDI maps and session are saved in the app's private storage on your device.
  • Recordings (Pro Edition) are saved as WAV files in Music/THWACK on your device, and preset files you export are saved in Downloads/THWACK. They stay there unless you share them yourself through Android's share sheet.
  • When you import a file, Thwack reads only the file you choose in Android's file picker.
  • Settings such as audio and MIDI routing are saved on the device, including the names of the USB audio interfaces and MIDI devices you route to.

Backup

If Android Backup is turned on, Android may include your presets and session in your own Google backup. Shei Designs has no access to that backup.

What Thwack does not do

  • No accounts, sign-ins or profiles.
  • No analytics, advertising or tracking code.
  • No internet access: the app has no network permission.
  • No microphone: recordings capture Thwack's own sound output only.
  • No access to your contacts, location, camera, photos or other files.

Purchases

The Pro Edition is a one-time in-app purchase made through Google Play. Google processes the payment under the Google Privacy Policy. The app only learns whether Pro is unlocked on your device. As the seller, Shei Designs receives the order records Google Play provides to every developer (such as the order number, date and country), and uses them only for accounting, tax and refunds.

Notifications

If you turn on background playback, Thwack shows a notification with a Stop button while it plays. It posts no other notifications. Android may ask your permission before showing it.

MIDI devices

Notes, velocity, clock and control messages from MIDI devices you connect are used in real time to play and control the app. They are not recorded or sent anywhere, except to the MIDI devices you choose as outputs.

Children

Thwack is suitable for general audiences and collects no data from anyone, including children.
